When we think of the different ways people can use technology to help them, we have a tendency to think of wearable devices. However, the problem with the ever so popular “wearables” is the fact that you have to remember to put it on and if you forget …well, you’re left without your device. If a smart device is a natural part of your activity, you will be more likely to use it, correct?
That’s what’s so cool about a new product from Nov’in, a French company! The product is called the Dring. Sounds like a funny word, doesn’t it? The Dring is a cane that has a smart device inside it. If you or your loved one has a problem with mobility and requires a cane, this one right here might just be a viable option for them.
A Large Array of Motion Sensors
This cane has a large array of motion sensors in it that will help the user get around.
Apart from the motion sensors, this cane also has a GPS. Yes, it has a GPS built right into it. The GPS can provide location data and send it to a secure server.
The data is analyzed and when it detects a problem, such as reduced activity over time, or a fall, it sends an alert to the family or caregiver. The alerts can be received via emails, text messages, or you can even have it ring your phone.
Built right onto this cane, there’s also an emergency button. If the user is in need of help of any kind, all they have to do is push this emergency button.
Winner of the CES 2017 Innovation Award
The Dring came to my attention when it was announced as the winner of the CES 2017 Innovation Award. This device is a great example of how we can use Health Tech devices that fit naturally into our daily activities, while adding functions that are valuable to us.
Long Battery Life
The Dring Smart Cane has a long battery life, so no need to worry about the batteries running out every day.
Great for Elderly
While any individual that has a mobility problem can use this cane, it is great for elderly people, because for them, falling is a major issue. Due to this, they go through social withdrawal, confidence loss, and yes, reduced physical activity. The companies ambition states that they created this cane in order to help elderly regain confidence and to lend them a helping hand.
Would I recommend this cane to my grandparents? I sure would – this is a great way to introduce our elderly population to the latest technology advancements and at the same time, it’ll help you keep up with them to make sure they are okay throughout the day.
